The maintenance of Battery Backup Units (BBU) is normally overlooked. The BBU sits in the rack or on the floor most of the time and no one ever thinks about it until they loose power and the BBU doesn’t keep the system up. BBU’s need to be tested periodically to ensure they are ready to perform when they are needed. Most manufacturers specify the batteries should be changed every 3 to 4 years.
